About
Gaia Seed
Gaia Seed is a curated shelf for people who grow from seed — heirloom and open-pollinated varieties with stories worth telling, seed-starting gear compared honestly, and the seed-saving knowledge that turns gardeners into seed keepers. It’s built as a curator, not a catalog.
Why this shelf exists
The seed world has a discovery problem: thousands of varieties, hundreds of gadgets, and no one willing to tell you what’s worth your money and what’s marketing. So this shelf exists — every variety with its story and its drawbacks, every gear pick with its cons. Research and curation, stated plainly: we study published growing guidance, extension and university resources, seed-house histories, and community grower reports, then we tell you what we found — including the parts nobody advertises.
How we pick
Varieties
Histories and growing notes
What each variety is actually known for — its story, its habits, and its honest drawbacks. No variety earns a story card without its cons.
Gear
Specs and trade-offs
Man for man, spec for spec: what a piece of gear does, what it doesn’t, and what the cheaper alternative gets you. Marketing copy gets fact-checked, not repeated.
Guides
Teach the craft
Seed saving, seed starting, indoor growing — the knowledge shelves exist so the product shelves make sense. A customer who understands the craft buys better and wastes less.
The trust part
- No pay-to-play, ever. Nobody can buy a featured spot on this shelf. Advertisers get clearly labeled placements (see Advertise With Us) — never disguised as editorial picks.
- Commissions don’t decide. Some links are affiliate links; we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. It never decides what we recommend — the full policy is in our affiliate disclosure.
- Honest about limits. We don’t run trial gardens or product labs. When we don’t know something, we say so — and point you to the extension service or handbook that does.

Good to know
Who runs Gaia Seed?
Gaia Seed is a curated affiliate shelf — an editorial project, not a seed company or a store. We research, compare, and recommend; the seed houses and gear makers do the selling.
Do you sell seeds or gear directly?
No. When you find something you like, you buy it from the retailer who sells it. We link out; we never take your payment.
How is Gaia Seed different from a homestead site?
We’re the seed-nerd’s shelf, not the homestead: varieties, germination, lights, and the seed-saving craft. For the wider homestead angle — gardens, flocks, and land — our sibling shelf L & N Farms covers that ground.
