Gaia Seed

Start everything from seed.

The seed keeper’s shelf, curated — heirloom varieties with stories worth telling, seed-starting gear compared honestly, and the lost art of saving your own. Every pick with its cons. No pay-to-play, ever.

From packet to keeper

One arc, three shelves: start them, grow them strong, save the best.

The shelf, department by department

Each shelf is small and opinionated — research and curation, not a warehouse.

Seed Starting

Trays, domes, heat mats, and mixes — with honest cons.

How this shelf stays honest

  • Curator, not catalog. The seed world has a discovery problem: thousands of varieties, hundreds of gadgets, and nobody willing to say what’s marketing. This shelf exists to say it.
  • Every pick has its cons. Disease susceptibility, short storage, fussy germination — the drawbacks get listed next to the praise.
  • No pay-to-play. Nobody can buy a featured spot. Commissions never decide what gets recommended — see the affiliate disclosure.

Some links are affiliate links — we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Good to know

Is Gaia Seed a seed store?

No. Gaia Seed is a curated shelf: we research varieties and gear, compare them honestly, and point you to the retailers who sell them. We don’t sell seeds directly and we never take your payment.

How do you decide what to feature?

Varieties are researched for their histories, growing notes, and what they’re actually known for; gear is compared on specs and known drawbacks. Nobody pays for placement — featured or not, the standard is the same.

Do you test the varieties and gear yourselves?

We don’t run trial gardens or product labs. Our picks come from published growing guidance, extension and university resources, seed-house histories, and community grower reports — research and curation, stated plainly.
